Major League Gaming (MLG)
This gaming community has been held to be one of the most competitive. Major League Gaming was started by a few individuals (Sundance Digiovanni and Mike Sepso) with enough money to bring the game Halo: Combat Evolved to a competitive stage. The first tournaments were help in gyms, rec rooms, garages, or just in peoples houses across the nation. At that time the prize money was barely enough to keep the top players at that time to keep traveling. With the year before and the year of the Halo 2 launch MLG was picking up speed and started offering a good prize pool for the top 4 teams in the tourneys. With the launch of Halo 2 and the community of Halo and Xbox Live, the Halo 2 competitive side was greatly increased. In 2007, the game list includes: Halo 2, Gears of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas and Shadowrun(Half-way through the 2007 season). The games on the circuit have changed almost every year. In 2002, the first year of this competitive league the only game played was Halo: Combat Evolved. In 2003, the same game dominated the league. Now in the 2004 season, the game list was expanded on. They added games like Super Smash Bros: Melee, Soul Calibur, Gran Turismo 3, Tekken 5 and in November of the 2004 season they added Halo 2. How ever after the 2004 season they dropped: Halo: Combat Evolved, Soul Calibur, Grand Turismo and Tekken 5. In the 2005 season, the played just two titles and those were, Halo 2 and Super Smash Bros: Melee. Also in the 2005 season they had a first place prize for the halo 2 4v4 at 20,000 dollars. Now in the 2006 season they kept the same titles. They also have done what no other competitive gaming league has done in this year, they signed their top players to 250,000 dollar contracts. At that time they sign 5 players to that contract, but then on December of that year they added 8 more players to that same dollar amount also. These players were from the game Halo 2. Now in the 2007 they added 3 more titles: Gears of War, Shadowrun and Rainbow Six Vegas. Also in 2007 they had a total prize pool over 1 million dollars. Also gave a shot to the top 8 halo 2 pro teams for a 100,00 dollar grand prize. Also in the 2007 they added online tourneys with prize pools of 10,000 dollars.
